Truck Dispatcher, US Overnight Desk

Our carriers run through the night in the United States and Canada. Someone has to answer when a driver is turned away from a closed dock at 2am Eastern, and someone has to have the next load booked before that driver's clock resets. That is this desk. Because Amman sits ahead of American time zones, you cover their night during normal daytime hours here.

You will carry roughly 15 to 25 trucks depending on season, working alongside three other dispatchers on the same shift.

What you'll do

• Answer live calls and messages from drivers for the length of your shift, usually 30 to 60 conversations
• Book loads off DAT and Truckstop for trucks that empty overnight, checking the posted rate against the lane average before you accept
• Rebook fast when a load cancels or a shipper pushes a pickup window, which happens most shifts
• Send rate confirmations and pickup details to drivers in a form they can read on a phone at a truck stop
• Track each truck's remaining hours of service so the plan you build is legal to drive
• Log every call and load in our TMS with enough detail that the next shift continues the thread without asking the driver to repeat himself
• Escalate to the on-call senior dispatcher when a load will be late, a driver breaks down, or a broker disputes a rate
• Hand the book over in a written shift handoff before you sign off

What you need

• Spoken English strong enough for a phone call with an American driver on a bad connection, which is the requirement we do not bend on
• At least one year in dispatch, freight brokerage, customer support, or another role where the phone was the job
• Enough US geography to know that Chicago to Atlanta is not a day trip, or the willingness to learn it in your first month
• Composure when a driver is angry and the clock is running
• Written notes another person can act on without calling you at home
• Availability Sunday through Thursday on a fixed daytime shift in Amman

Nice to have

• Experience on a US dispatch desk, at a carrier, brokerage, or outsourced provider
• Working knowledge of DAT, Truckstop, or a TMS such as McLeod or Ascend
• Familiarity with FMCSA hours of service rules
• Arabic and English both fluent, since part of the team communicates in each

Hours and location

On site at our Amman office, Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Amman time. That covers roughly midnight to 8:30 AM US Eastern. The schedule is fixed. We do not rotate people through changing shifts, because dispatch quality depends on knowing your trucks.
